Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Air-Fried Apple Fritters with Caramel Sauce.
Step 1
In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
Step 2
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, milk, vegetable oil, and beaten egg. Stir until a soft dough forms. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 1 to 2 minutes until smooth (the dough will be sticky). Shape the dough into an 8-inch square.
Step 3
In another small bowl, toss the chopped apple with cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over half of the dough. Fold the other half over the apples and knead gently for about 30 seconds to distribute the apples throughout the dough. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
Step 4
Prepare a piece of parchment paper by lightly flouring it. Turn the risen dough out onto a floured surface and cut it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a 3- to 4-inch oval, keeping in mind that they do not need to be perfectly uniform. Place the fritters on the prepared parchment paper, cover loosely with plastic wrap, and let them rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
Step 5
Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (180°C) and the oven to 200°F (95°C). Set a wire rack over a rimmed baking sheet to keep the fritters warm after cooking.
Step 6
Place 2 to 3 fritters in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Transfer the cooked fritters to the prepared baking sheet and keep them warm in the oven. Repeat with the remaining fritters.
Step 7
In a small bowl, whisk together the caramel sauce and 1 tablespoon of hot water, adding more water as needed to achieve a smooth drizzling consistency. Drizzle the warm fritters with the caramel sauce and sprinkle with coarse sea salt, allowing the baking sheet to catch any drips.
