Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Patriotic Flag Cake.
Step 1
Begin by preheating your oven to a cozy 350°F (175°C).
Step 2
Prepare four 8-inch round cake pans by greasing them and lining the bottoms with parchment paper for easy release.
Step 3
In a spacious mixing bowl, blend together the white cake mix, whole milk, egg whites, vegetable oil, and clear vanilla extract.
Step 4
Start mixing on low speed for about 30 seconds, then elevate to medium speed and beat for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the batter to remain slightly lumpy for texture.
Step 5
To create vibrant red layers, transfer half of the batter to a separate bowl and stir in red food coloring until fully incorporated.
Step 6
Divide this red batter evenly between two of the prepared pans, smoothing the tops with a spatula.
Step 7
For the white layer, pour half of the remaining uncolored batter into another prepared pan and smooth the surface.
Step 8
Now, for the blue layer, add blue food coloring to the leftover uncolored batter in the large bowl, mixing until well combined.
Step 9
Gently fold in 1 cup of white chocolate chips, then pour this blue batter into the last prepared pan, smoothing the top.
Step 10
Bake the cakes in your preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 11
Once baked, allow the cakes to cool completely on wire racks.
Step 12
After cooling, carefully run a knife around the edges of each cake, invert them to remove from the pans, and peel off the parchment paper.
Step 13
If needed, use a sharp knife to level the tops of the cakes for a perfect finish.
Step 14
Slice both red cake layers and the white cake layer in half horizontally, yielding 4 thin red layers and 2 thin white layers.
Step 15
Using a 4-inch round stencil, cut out circles from one of the thin red layers and one from a thin white layer.
Step 16
Center the stencil on the blue cake and cut out the center to create a blue cake ring.
Step 17
To assemble your masterpiece, start with a thin red layer on a cake stand.
Step 18
Generously frost the top with white frosting, then add a thin white layer and frost again.
Step 19
Place the second thin red layer on top and frost it as well.
Step 20
Carefully position the blue ring cake atop the second red layer, frosting the inside of the blue ring.
Step 21
Fit the 4-inch white cake layer into the blue ring and frost the top, then gently press the 4-inch red cake layer on top.
Step 22
Frost the entire exterior of the cake generously with the remaining frosting.
Step 23
Crumble any leftover red and blue cake pieces into separate bowls.
Step 24
Use a knife to score lines into the frosting, creating a flag design with a 2-inch square in the upper left for the blue field and 7 thick horizontal stripes.
Step 25
Fill the blue square with blue crumbs and press white chocolate chips upside-down into the crumbs to form 'stars.
Step 26
' Fill the bottom stripe and every other stripe with red crumbs, sprinkling white sugar into the white stripes for a striking contrast.
Step 27
Finally, slice the cake into wedges to unveil the stunning layers of red and white stripes, complemented by the blue field adorned with white chocolate chip stars.
Step 28
Enjoy this festive creation that’s sure to impress at any celebration!.
