Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Apple Peel and Core Jelly.
Step 1
Begin by gathering a large pot and combining water with apple cores and peels.
Step 2
Heat the mixture until it simmers, allowing it to cook for 25 minutes.
Step 3
Once the time is up, strain the liquid through a cheesecloth placed over another large pot to separate the solids.
Step 4
To the strained liquid, add enough apple juice to reach a total of 7 cups.
Step 5
Stir in powdered fruit pectin and bring the concoction to a vigorous boil.
Step 6
When it reaches a rolling boil, introduce the sugar and keep boiling for one minute, stirring continuously to ensure everything blends beautifully.
Step 7
Afterward, remove the pot from the heat and add a drop of red food coloring, adjusting until you achieve your desired hue.
Step 8
Carefully pour the jelly mixture into sterilized jars, leaving a small space of 1/8 inch at the top.
Step 9
Wipe the rims of the jars clean and secure the lids and rings tightly.
Step 10
Next, place a rack at the bottom of a large stockpot and fill it halfway with water, bringing it to a boil.
Step 11
Using a jar holder, gently lower the jars into the boiling water, ensuring they are spaced at least 2 inches apart.
Step 12
If needed, add more boiling water to cover the jars by at least 1 inch.
Step 13
Cover the pot and process the jars in the boiling water for 5 minutes.
Step 14
Once done, carefully lift the jars from the stockpot and let them rest several inches apart for 12 to 24 hours.
Step 15
To check for a proper seal, press the center of each lid.
Step 16
After they have cooled, remove the rings and store the jars in a cool, dark place, ready to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Step 17
This delightful jelly not only captures the essence of apples but also brings a touch of homemade charm to your pantry.
