Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Italian Herb Braided Bread.
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, basil, salt, oregano, garlic powder, and rosemary until well combined.
Step 2
In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the milk, water, and butter. Heat in the microwave for about 30 seconds, or until the butter is melted. Pour this mixture over the flour mixture and stir until the dough is just moistened.
Step 3
Add the egg to the mixture and beat until smooth. Gradually stir in the remaining 3 cups of flour to form a soft dough.
Step 4
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 4 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Step 5
Divide the dough into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 15-inch rope. Place the ropes on a greased baking sheet and braid them together. Pinch the ends to seal and tuck them under the braid. Cover the braid and let it rise until doubled in size, approximately 25 minutes.
Step 6
Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC). Brush the top of the braid with olive oil and sprinkle with additional basil if desired.
Step 7
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown. Allow it to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
