Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Calzone in a Bread Machine.
Step 1
To start your delicious calzone, grab your bread machine and add the ingredients in the order suggested by the manufacturer: pour in the water, sprinkle in the active dry yeast, and add the white sugar, bread flour, salt, and powdered milk.
Step 2
Once everything is in, select the Dough cycle and let the machine work its magic.
Step 3
While the dough is mixing and rising, heat a large skillet over medium heat.
Step 4
Toss in the sliced Italian sausage and cook it for about 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it’s beautifully browned.
Step 5
Once done, drain any excess fat and set the sausage aside to cool a bit.
Step 6
When the dough cycle is finished, turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it into a rectangle that measures roughly 16 by 10 inches.
Step 7
Now, it’s time to preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) so it’s ready for the calzone.
Step 8
Carefully transfer your rolled-out dough to a lightly greased cookie sheet.
Step 9
Spoon the pizza sauce down the center of the dough, creating a nice line, and then layer on the browned sausage followed by a generous sprinkle of shredded mozzarella cheese.
Step 10
To give your calzone that signature look, make diagonal cuts about 1 1/2 inches apart along each long side of the dough rectangle, cutting just to within 1/2 inch of the filling.
Step 11
Now, criss-cross those cut strips of dough over the filling, sealing the edges with a little water to keep everything tucked in nicely.
Step 12
For a lovely golden finish, brush the top of your calzone with melted butter.
Step 13
Pop it into your preheated oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until it turns a gorgeous golden brown.
Step 14
Once it’s out of the oven, let it cool for about 5 minutes before slicing into it and serving.
Step 15
Enjoy the delightful aroma and the satisfying taste of your homemade calzone!.
