Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Brown Butter Apple Crisp Bars Delight.
Step 1
To start your delicious apple oat bars, grab a medium, light-colored saucepan and melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter over medium-low heat.
Step 2
Keep an eye on it and swirl the pan often as the butter transforms into a beautiful golden brown, releasing a delightful nutty aroma—this should take about 10 minutes.
Step 3
Once it’s ready, pour the browned butter into a large mixing bowl and set it aside to cool a bit.
Step 4
Next, return to the same saucepan and add sliced Granny Smith apples, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, a splash of lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
Step 5
Cook this mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the apples soften, which should take around 10 minutes.
Step 6
While that’s cooking, mix together some water and cornstarch in a small bowl.
Step 7
Once the apples are tender, stir in your cornstarch mixture and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until it thickens slightly.
Step 8
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Step 9
Now, let’s get your oven preheating to 350°F (175°C).
Step 10
Line a 9x9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, making sure to leave some overhang on the sides for easy removal later.
Step 11
Back to your bowl with the browned butter—add rolled oats, all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, the remaining 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, baking soda, ground nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Step 12
Mix everything together until well combined, and don’t forget to set aside 1 cup of this mixture for the topping.
Step 13
Firmly press the remaining oat mixture into the bottom of your prepared baking pan to create a nice, even layer.
Step 14
Pour the apple mixture over this crust, spreading it out evenly, and then sprinkle the reserved oat mixture on top.
Step 15
Pop the pan into your preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.
Step 16
Once baked, take it out and let it cool completely in the pan for about 30 minutes before slicing it into 16 delightful bars.
Step 17
Enjoy the sweet aroma filling your kitchen as you savor these tasty treats!.
