Step 1
In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the milk for about 1 minute until warm. Steep 1 chai tea bag in the warm milk for 7 to 10 minutes, then remove the tea bag.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, whisk the contents of the remaining 2 chai tea bags into the bread flour until well combined.
Step 3
Pour the warm milk into a bread machine, discarding the steeped tea bag. Add the egg yolk, softened butter, flour mixture, sugar, yeast, and salt in that order.
Step 4
Select the Dough cycle on the bread machine and start it. The cycle will take about 90 minutes to complete.
Step 5
Once the dough cycle is finished, remove the dough from the machine and place it on a floured surface. Gently punch down the dough to release air bubbles.
Step 6
Divide the dough into 3 equal parts and braid them together. Tuck the ends of the braid under to form a loaf shape.
Step 7
Place the braided loaf on a greased baking pan and cover it loosely with a towel. Let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
Step 8
Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
Step 9
In a small bowl, whisk the egg white with 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush this mixture over the top of the loaf and sprinkle with white decorator sugar to taste.
Step 10
Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until it is golden brown.
