Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Cherry Walnut Delights.
Step 1
Start by creaming together the softened butter and white sugar in a large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer to beat them until the mixture is smooth and fluffy, creating a delightful base for your cookies. Next, stir in the milk and vanilla extract, blending them well into the buttery mixture for a touch of sweetness and flavor.
Step 2
Now, it's time to add the dry ingredients. Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour and salt until everything is well combined. You'll have a soft dough that’s ready for shaping.
Step 3
Divide the dough into two equal portions. On a sheet of waxed paper, shape each half into a 12-inch roll. This is where the fun begins! Take 17 candied cherries and place them side by side on top of each roll. Gently press the cherries into the dough until they are nestled in the center, then mold the dough around the cherries to encase them.
Step 4
For an extra crunch, sprinkle the outside of the rolls evenly with chopped walnuts, if you’re using them. This adds a lovely texture and flavor to your cookies. Once you’ve done that, wrap the dough tightly in the waxed paper and refrigerate it for at least 4 hours, or even overnight if you can wait!
Step 5
When you’re ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Unwrap the chilled dough and slice each roll into 1/4-inch thick pieces. Place the slices on ungreased baking sheets, giving them a little space to spread as they bake.
Step 6
Bake in the preheated oven for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cookies are golden brown. The aroma will fill your kitchen, making it hard to resist! Once baked, let them cool slightly before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
