Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Classic Apple Dumplings.
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and butter a baking dish.
Step 2
In a small pot over medium-high heat, combine the brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of butter, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar is fully dissolved. Once dissolved, turn off the heat and gently swirl the pot to combine the sauce. Set it aside for later use.
Step 3
In a small bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon to taste. Core the unpeeled apples, making sure to remove the seeds.
Step 4
Divide the pie dough into four equal portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a circle about 1/8-inch thick and 7 inches in diameter, large enough to wrap around an apple.
Step 5
Place each apple in the center of the dough circles. Spoon about 3 teaspoons of the cinnamon sugar mixture into the core of each apple, and add a teaspoon of butter into each hole.
Step 6
Carefully wrap each apple in the pie dough, sealing the top without stretching the dough too tightly to avoid breaking. If necessary, brush the edges with water to help them stick together. Trim any excess dough and shape it into decorative leaves if desired.
Step 7
Arrange the wrapped apples seam-side up in the buttered baking dish. Pour the reserved sauce over each apple, ensuring they are well covered.
Step 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, basting occasionally with the sauce, until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender. Once done, remove from the oven and baste with additional sauce before serving warm.
