Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Classic Oyster Seviche.
Step 1
Begin by heating a saucepan over medium heat and adding sliced Spanish onions along with enough water to fully submerge them.
Step 2
Allow the mixture to reach a gentle simmer and cook until the onions are tender.
Step 3
Once softened, remove from heat, drain, and rinse the onions under cold water to halt the cooking process.
Step 4
Next, prepare the large ripe tomato by scoring an X on both the top and bottom.
Step 5
In the same saucepan, add fresh water to cover the tomato and bring it to a simmer.
Step 6
Cook for about five minutes, or until the skin begins to peel away.
Step 7
Carefully remove the tomato and rinse it under cold water until it’s cool enough to handle.
Step 8
Peel off the skin and blend the tomato until smooth in a blender.
Step 9
In a spacious glass dish or bowl, combine the softened onions with fresh lemon juice and olive oil.
Step 10
Gently fold in the rinsed oysters, the puréed tomato, diced tomato, and chopped green onions.
Step 11
Add ketchup and soy sauce for a flavor boost, then season the mixture with chopped parsley, garlic salt, granulated sugar, and salt to your liking.
Step 12
For the best flavor, cover the dish and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes if using canned oysters.
Step 13
If you opt for raw seafood, extend the marinating time to a minimum of 2 hours until the oysters turn opaque.
Step 14
This dish is a delightful blend of flavors that will transport you to a coastal paradise with every bite.
