Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Colorful Freezer Butter Cookies.
Step 1
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar until well combined.
Step 2
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, shortening, and white sugar with an electric mixer until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Step 3
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until fully incorporated.
Step 4
Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
Step 5
Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a log about 2 inches in diameter.
Step 6
Spread the colored candy sprinkles on a sheet of waxed paper. Roll each dough log in the sprinkles, ensuring they stick to the sides.
Step 7
Wrap each log tightly in waxed paper and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or until firm.
Step 8
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Step 9
Remove one dough log from the refrigerator, unwrap it, and place it on a cutting board. Slice the log into 1/2-inch thick rounds and arrange them on the prepared cookie sheet.
Step 10
Rewrap any remaining dough and return it to the refrigerator until you're ready to slice and bake it.
Step 11
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly browned.
Step 12
Allow the cookies to cool on the sheet for 1 minute before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with the remaining dough.
