Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Creamy Farro Breakfast Cereal.
Step 1
Start by placing the farro perlato in a bowl and covering it with several inches of cool water. Let it soak in the refrigerator for about 8 hours or overnight. This step is crucial as it helps soften the grains, making them tender and delicious.
Step 2
Once the farro has soaked, drain it well. Next, transfer the farro to a saucepan and cover it with fresh water. Stir in a pinch of salt and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and let it simmer until the farro is tender, which should take about 15 minutes. After cooking, drain any excess water.
Step 3
In another saucepan, combine the milk, white sugar, the scraped seeds from the vanilla bean, and another pinch of salt. Cook this mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the milk is warmed through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remember to remove the vanilla bean pod after this step; it has done its job of infusing flavor!
Step 4
Finally, add the cooked farro to the warm milk mixture. Stir gently and cook for an additional 5 minutes until everything is heated through. Your creamy farro breakfast cereal is now ready to be enjoyed!
