Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Crispy Rhubarb Wontons.
Step 1
Start by placing the chopped rhubarb into your blender or food processor. Blend it until it transforms into a smooth, liquefied mixture. Pour this vibrant rhubarb puree into a large mixing bowl and gently stir in the flour and sugar until everything is well combined and smooth. This mixture will be the star of your wontons!
Step 2
Next, lay out a few wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Keep a small bowl of water nearby; you'll need it to help seal the wrappers. Take a generous spoonful of your rhubarb mixture and place it in the center of each wrapper. Dip your fingertip in the water and brush it along the edges of the wrapper to moisten them. Now, fold the wrapper into a triangle, pressing firmly to seal it. For an extra secure seal, moisten the inside corners and press them together at the top. Repeat this process until all your wrappers and filling are used up.
Step 3
Heat the oil in a deep fryer or a heavy skillet to 375°F (190°C). Carefully add as many wontons as you can fit without crowding the pan. Fry them, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides, which should take about 5 minutes per batch. Once done, use a slotted spoon to transfer the wontons to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Serve these warm and enjoy the delightful combination of crispy texture and sweet-tart rhubarb!
How to Serve
These crispy rhubarb wontons are best served warm, perhaps with a dusting of powdered sugar or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side for an extra treat!
How to Store
Store any leftover wontons in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, simply pop them in the oven for a few minutes to regain their crispiness.
