Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Delicious Applesauce Cake.
Step 1
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grab a fluted cake pan and give it a good spray with cooking spray to ensure your cake comes out easily later on.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the white sugar and butter-flavored shortening. Using an electric mixer, beat them together until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Then, add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until everything is nicely incorporated.
Step 3
Next, in a saucepan over medium heat, combine the applesauce, water, and baking soda. Stir this mixture until it's heated through, which should take about 2 minutes. Once it's warm, pour this applesauce mixture into your shortening mixture, and don’t forget to add the vanilla extract for that lovely flavor!
Step 4
In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, salt, baking powder, and ground cloves. Gradually add the applesauce mixture to the flour mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix! Finally, fold in the raisins and chopped walnuts, giving your batter a delightful texture.
Step 5
Pour the batter into your prepared cake pan, spreading it out evenly. Now, it's time to bake! Place the pan in your preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a plate to cool completely.
How to Serve
This applesauce cake is delicious on its own, but you can also serve it with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
How to Store
Store any leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. You can also freeze slices for up to 3 months.
