Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Delicious Trifle with Custard and Pound Cake.
Step 1
Start by pouring the whole milk into a microwave-safe pitcher. Heat it in the microwave on high until it begins to simmer, which should take about 4 to 5 minutes depending on your microwave's power. While the milk is heating, grab a large bowl and whisk together the eggs and 1/4 cup of sugar until well combined. Once the milk is hot, slowly drizzle it into the egg mixture while whisking continuously. This gradual mixing is key to preventing the eggs from scrambling. After all the milk is incorporated, transfer the custard mixture to a saucepan. Cook it over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it thickens enough to coat the back of a metal spoon, which should take around 5 minutes. Once thickened, pour the custard into a bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it chill in the refrigerator for several hours until it's nice and cold.
Step 2
Next, whip the cream with the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar until it forms firm peaks. Set this aside for later. Now, it's time to assemble your trifle! Line the bottom and sides of a trifle bowl with half of the pound cake slices. Drizzle half of the cream sherry over the cake slices to soak them in that lovely flavor. Pour one-third of the chilled custard over the cake and smooth it out with a spatula. Repeat this layering process two more times, alternating between the pound cake, sherry, and custard layers. Finally, top it all off with the whipped cream, spreading it evenly over the last layer of custard.
Step 3
Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours before serving. This resting time allows all the flavors to meld beautifully, making each bite a delightful experience.
