Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Dragon Roll Sushi.
Step 1
Begin by rinsing the sushi rice in a strainer under cold water until the water runs clear, ensuring a clean base for your dish.
Step 2
In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice with water and bring it to a boil.
Step 3
Once boiling, lower the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.
Step 4
Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over low heat, blend rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely, which should take around 1 to 2 minutes.
Step 5
Drizzle this mixture over the cooked rice and gently fold it in until the rice cools and takes on a drier texture.
Step 6
Preheat your oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) and lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
Step 7
Arrange the frozen tempura shrimp on the sheet and bake for approximately 6 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden and crispy.
Step 8
Once baked, trim the tails off of four tempura shrimp for easier rolling.
Step 9
Prepare a bamboo sushi rolling mat by covering it with plastic wrap.
Step 10
Lay a sheet of nori, shiny side down, on the wrap.
Step 11
With moistened fingers, spread about 1 cup of the prepared sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving a 1/3-inch border at the top.
Step 12
Carefully flip the nori so the rice is now facing the mat.
Step 13
At the bottom edge of the nori, layer the imitation crabmeat and cucumber.
Step 14
Place two of the tail-off tempura shrimp in the center, followed by two tail-on shrimp at the end, allowing the tails to extend beyond the nori's edge.
Step 15
Gently lift the mat and roll the nori tightly around the filling, forming a log shape.
Step 16
Transfer your sushi roll to a serving plate and elegantly layer sliced avocado and unagi on top, covering the roll's surface.
Step 17
With a moistened knife, slice the roll into eight pieces, revealing the beautiful layers inside.
Step 18
Repeat this delightful process with the remaining ingredients to create a second roll, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Step 19
Each bite will transport you to a sushi bar, making your homemade creation a true culinary adventure.
