Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make EAGLE BRAND Caramel Flan.
Step 1
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This will ensure it's nice and warm for your flan. Next, grab a heavy skillet and cook the sugar over medium-low heat. Stir it constantly until it melts and turns a beautiful caramel color. Be careful not to burn it! Once it's ready, carefully pour the caramel into eight ungreased 6-ounce custard cups, tilting them to coat the bottoms evenly.
Step 2
In a medium bowl, beat the eggs until they're well mixed. Then, stir in the water, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt. This mixture will create the creamy custard base for your flan. Pour this custard mixture into the prepared custard cups, filling them up.
Step 3
Now, place the custard cups in a large shallow pan. Fill the pan with about an inch of hot water. This water bath will help the flan cook evenly and prevent it from cracking in the oven.
Step 4
Bake your flans in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes. You'll know they're done when a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Once baked, carefully move the cups from the water bath to a wire rack and let them cool for about an hour. After cooling, chill them in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight for the best flavor and texture.
Step 5
When you're ready to serve, loosen the sides of the flan with a small knife. Invert each cup onto rimmed serving plates, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top. If you want to get fancy, you can top it with a sugar garnish! To make the garnish, fill a medium metal bowl halfway with ice. In a saucepan, combine sugar with a little water and stir. Cover and bring to a boil, then cook over high heat until it turns light brown, about 5 to 6 minutes. Quickly place the pan on ice for a minute, then drizzle the sugar decoratively over a foil-lined cookie sheet. Let it cool, peel it off the foil, and use it as a garnish for your flan.
