Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Homemade Plum Jelly.
Step 1
Begin by assembling your ingredients: fresh plums, white sugar, and water.
Step 2
In a spacious pot, combine the plums, sugar, and water over medium-high heat.
Step 3
Stir the mixture until the sugar fully dissolves, then bring it to a vigorous boil.
Step 4
Once boiling, lower the heat to medium and continue cooking, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the mixture reaches your desired thickness, which should take about 30 to 40 minutes.
Step 5
While the jelly simmers, inspect five half-pint jars for cracks and check the rings for rust, discarding any that are defective.
Step 6
To sterilize the jars, immerse them in simmering water until the jelly is ready, and wash new lids and rings in warm, soapy water.
Step 7
When the jelly has thickened, remove it from the heat and skim off any heavy foam from the surface.
Step 8
Carefully ladle the hot jelly into the sterilized jars, filling them to within half an inch of the top.
Step 9
Use a clean knife or thin spatula to gently run around the insides of the jars to eliminate any air bubbles.
Step 10
Wipe the rims with a damp paper towel to remove any residue, then place the lids on top and screw the rings on tightly.
Step 11
Prepare a large stockpot by placing a rack at the bottom and filling it halfway with water.
Step 12
Bring the water to a boil, then lower the jars into the pot using a holder, ensuring they are spaced two inches apart.
Step 13
Add more boiling water to cover the jars by at least one inch.
Step 14
Bring the water back to a rolling boil, cover the pot, and process the jars for 15 minutes.
Step 15
After processing, carefully remove the jars from the stockpot and let them rest several inches apart for 12 to 24 hours.
Step 16
Once cooled, store the jars in a cool, dark place, ready to enjoy the sweet taste of homemade plum jelly.
