Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Hungarian Pickled Cauliflower.
Step 1
Start by giving your three quart-sized jars a thorough inspection.
Step 2
Look for any cracks and check the rings for rust; if you find any defects, it’s best to discard those jars.
Step 3
Next, immerse the jars in simmering water for at least five minutes to ensure they are properly sterilized.
Step 4
While the jars are getting ready, grab a pot and combine vinegar, water, and sea salt over medium heat.
Step 5
Bring this mixture to a gentle simmer, filling your kitchen with a delightful aroma.
Step 6
Now it’s time to pack your jars! Fill each sterilized jar with equal amounts of fresh cauliflower florets, sliced chile peppers, minced garlic, mustard seeds, black peppercorns, coriander seeds, dill seeds, allspice berries, red pepper flakes, and bay leaves.
Step 7
This colorful medley not only looks beautiful but also adds a burst of flavor.
Step 8
Carefully pour the hot vinegar mixture into the jars, making sure to leave about half an inch of space at the top.
Step 9
To eliminate any pesky air bubbles, take a clean knife or a thin spatula and gently run it around the inside of each jar.
Step 10
Wipe the rims of the jars with a damp paper towel to remove any residue, then secure the lids tightly.
Step 11
Now, let’s get those jars processed! Place a rack in the bottom of a large stockpot and fill it halfway with water.
Step 12
Bring the water to a boil, then gently lower the jars into the pot, ensuring they are spaced about two inches apart.
Step 13
Add more boiling water to cover the jars by at least an inch, then bring the water back to a rolling boil.
Step 14
Cover the pot and let it process for ten minutes.
Step 15
Once the time is up, carefully remove the jars from the stockpot and place them on a cloth-covered or wooden surface, making sure they are a few inches apart to cool down.
Step 16
After they’ve cooled, press the center of each lid with your finger; it should not move up or down, indicating a proper seal.
Step 17
Finally, remove the rings for storage and tuck the jars away in a cool, dark place.
Step 18
Enjoy the satisfaction of your homemade pickled delights!.
