Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Instant Pot Sushi Rice Made Easy.
Step 1
Start by rinsing your sushi rice in the Instant Pot insert.
Step 2
Pour in enough water to fully cover the rice, then gently stir it in a circular motion.
Step 3
Use a sieve to strain the rice, and repeat this rinsing process until the water runs clear—this usually takes about five times.
Step 4
Once rinsed, spread the drained rice on a clean cloth and let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 5
While the rice is drying, take a moment to gently clean the kombu with a damp towel.
Step 6
Be careful not to wipe off the white powder, as it adds a delicious umami flavor to your dish.
Step 7
Break off a small piece of kombu and set it aside in a small saucepan for later.
Step 8
Now, place the remaining kombu into the Instant Pot along with the rinsed rice and 1 1/4 cups of water.
Step 9
Secure the lid, then select the high-pressure setting according to your Instant Pot's instructions and set the timer for 2 minutes.
Step 10
It will take about 10 to 15 minutes for the pressure to build up.
Step 11
Once the cooking time is up, let the pressure release naturally for about 8 minutes.
Step 12
After that, carefully use the quick-release method for any remaining pressure, then unlock and remove the lid.
Step 13
While the pressure is releasing, prepare the seasoning by combining rice wine, hon mirin, sugar, and sea salt in the small saucepan.
Step 14
Heat this mixture over low heat, stirring gently until the sugar and salt dissolve—just be sure not to let it boil.
Step 15
Now, using a rice paddle, transfer the cooked rice to a glass or ceramic bowl, discarding the kombu from the Instant Pot.
Step 16
Remove the small piece of kombu from your vinegar mixture and drizzle it over the rice.
Step 17
With your rice paddle, gently cut and fold the mixture into the rice, ensuring the vinegar is well incorporated and there are no lumps.
Step 18
To help the rice cool down to room temperature, you can fan it with a piece of cardboard if you like.
Step 19
This step not only cools the rice but also gives it a lovely shine.
Step 20
Enjoy the process, and soon you'll have perfectly seasoned sushi rice ready for your favorite rolls!.
