Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Mild Shrimp Boil with Corn and Potatoes.
Step 1
In a large pot, combine 2 cups of boiling water with 4 chicken bouillon cubes, stirring until fully dissolved.
Step 2
Add 8 cups of water, the quartered onion, whole garlic head, bay leaves, cloves, butter, kosher salt, coriander seeds, dill seeds, mustard seeds, celery seeds, allspice berries, and green peppercorns to the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, which should take about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer for 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 4
Squeeze the juice from the halved lemon into the pot and add the lemon halves as well. Then, add the red potatoes and cook for 14 minutes.
Step 5
After 14 minutes, add the corn and continue cooking for an additional 6 minutes.
Step 6
Finally, add the shrimp to the pot and cook until they turn opaque, which should take about 3 minutes. Remove the pot from heat.
Step 7
To cool the shrimp boil, add 4 cups of ice cubes to the pot and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Step 8
For serving, you can either spread several layers of newspaper on the dining table and use a slotted spoon to transfer the shrimp, potatoes, and corn directly onto the table for a traditional experience, or place them on a baking sheet for a tidier option. Alternatively, you can serve the shrimp boil in a large dish for guests to help themselves.
