Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Muhammara: Roasted Red Pepper & Walnut Spread.
Step 1
Start by heating a skillet over medium heat and adding a tablespoon of olive oil.
Step 2
Once the oil is shimmering, toss in the walnut halves.
Step 3
Toast them for about five minutes, stirring frequently until they become fragrant and lightly browned.
Step 4
When they’re ready, remove them from the heat and transfer the walnuts to a plate to cool.
Step 5
Don’t forget to set aside two or three walnuts for garnish; once they’ve cooled, chop them coarsely.
Step 6
In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil and sprinkle in the fresh bread crumbs.
Step 7
Cook these, stirring often, for about three to four minutes until they turn a lovely golden brown.
Step 8
Once done, take them off the heat and set them aside with the walnuts.
Step 9
Now, grab your food processor and combine the fire-roasted red bell peppers, toasted walnuts, golden bread crumbs, crushed garlic, lemon juice, pomegranate molasses, salt, paprika, Aleppo pepper flakes, cumin, and cayenne pepper.
Step 10
Drizzle in the remaining two tablespoons of olive oil for that extra richness.
Step 11
Pulse the mixture on and off, scraping down the sides as needed, until it reaches a smooth and creamy consistency.
Step 12
Once it’s just right, transfer the Muhammara to a bowl, cover it, and let it chill in the refrigerator for about two hours.
Step 13
This step allows all those wonderful flavors to meld together beautifully.
Step 14
When you’re ready to serve, scoop the Muhammara into a shallow serving bowl.
Step 15
Use the back of a spoon to create some lovely swirls on the surface, perfect for holding your garnishes.
Step 16
Top it off with the reserved chopped walnuts, a drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle of pepper flakes, and a handful of chopped parsley for a fresh finish.
Step 17
Enjoy this vibrant and flavorful spread with your favorite bread or veggies, and watch it disappear at your next gathering!.
