Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Savory Brunch Slab Pie.
Step 1
Start by preheating your oven to a cozy 350°F (175°C).
Step 2
While that warms up, grab two sheets of parchment paper and cut them to fit a 15x10x1-inch baking sheet.
Step 3
Next, take your sliced potatoes and place them in a large pot, covering them with cold water.
Step 4
Bring the pot to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and let the potatoes simmer until they’re tender, which should take about 7 to 10 minutes.
Step 5
Once they’re ready, drain the potatoes and set them aside.
Step 6
Now, let’s add some vibrant flavor! In a skillet over medium-high heat, sauté the spinach until it wilts, which will only take about 1 to 3 minutes.
Step 7
Once it’s done, remove it from the heat and give it a good squeeze to get rid of any excess liquid.
Step 8
It’s time to assemble our delicious creation! Lightly flour one of the parchment sheets and unroll a can of crescent dough onto it, placing it dough-side down on the baking sheet.
Step 9
Make sure to leave about a 1/2-inch overhang.
Step 10
Spread the cooked potatoes evenly over the dough, followed by the sautéed spinach, crumbled bacon, shredded Cheddar cheese, and sliced scallions.
Step 11
In a large bowl, whisk together 11 whole eggs and 1 egg white until well combined.
Step 12
Pour this egg mixture over the layered ingredients on the dough, and don’t forget to season it with kosher salt and black pepper to taste for that extra zing.
Step 13
Now, take the second prepared parchment sheet and lightly flour it as well.
Step 14
Unroll the second can of dough onto this sheet, then carefully discard the parchment and place the dough over the egg mixture in the baking sheet.
Step 15
Pinch the edges of the top and bottom dough together to seal everything in, trimming any excess dough if needed.
Step 16
For a beautiful finish, whisk together the remaining egg yolk and a splash of water in a small bowl.
Step 17
Cut a few small slits in the top crust to let the steam escape, then brush the egg yolk mixture over the surface for that golden touch.
Step 18
Pop your creation into the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the crust turns a lovely golden brown.
Step 19
Once it’s out of the oven, let it cool slightly before cutting it into squares.
Step 20
Enjoy this delightful dish that’s perfect for breakfast, brunch, or any time you crave something hearty and delicious!.
