Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Savory Empanada Pie.
Step 1
In a food processor, chop the onion until medium-sized. Use a garlic press to add the garlic to the chopped onion.
Step 2
Heat a sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add canola oil, onion, and garlic, then reduce the heat to medium. Sauté until the onion is golden, about 5 minutes.
Step 3
In the food processor, chop the mushrooms to a medium dice. Add them to the onion mixture and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Meanwhile, finely mince the olives and set aside.
Step 4
Stir in the oregano, paprika, cumin, red pepper flakes, and black pepper into the pan. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned, about 5 to 8 minutes. Mix in the olives, then remove from heat and let cool for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 5
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Spray a 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray and line it with one pie crust.
Step 6
Carefully spoon the cooled beef mixture into the crust. Place the second crust on top and slice air vents in the top crust.
Step 7
In a small bowl, beat the egg with water. Brush the egg wash over the entire surface of the pie.
Step 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
