Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Savory Pepper Bread.
Step 1
Start by preheating your oven to a cozy 375°F (190°C). While the oven warms up, take a moment to grease a tube pan to ensure your bread comes out easily later on.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, sugar, coarse black pepper, fast-rising yeast, and salt. Give it a good stir to mix everything together evenly.
Step 3
Next, in a saucepan over low heat, warm the water and margarine until it reaches a comfortable 130°F (54°C). This step is crucial as it activates the yeast and helps the dough rise beautifully. Once heated, pour this warm mixture into your flour blend, stirring just a few times to combine.
Step 4
Now, crack in 1 egg and beat the mixture until it forms a loose batter. Gradually stir in the remaining 1 1/2 cups of flour until the dough comes together. It's time to get your hands a little floury! Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 4 minutes, or until it feels smooth and elastic.
Step 5
Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape them into rolls. Place these delightful little rolls into the bottom of your prepared tube pan. To help them rise, set the pan in a sink filled with hot water (around 115°F/46°C) and let them sit until they double in size, which should take about 15 minutes.
Step 6
While the rolls are rising, beat the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of water until well combined. This will give your bread a beautiful golden finish.
Step 7
Once the rolls have risen, brush them gently with the egg yolk mixture, ensuring they are well coated. Now, it's time to bake! Place the pan in your preheated oven and let it bake for about 25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and your kitchen is filled with a heavenly aroma.
