Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Savory Stewed Burgers.
Step 1
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
Step 2
In a mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, ground pork, panko bread crumbs, beaten egg, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and divide the mixture into four equal portions, shaping them into burger patties.
Step 3
Increase the heat to medium-high and brown the burger patties in the same skillet for about 4 minutes on each side. Once browned, transfer the burgers to a plate and set aside.
Step 4
Lower the heat to low and add the minced garlic to the skillet. Stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, pour in the marinara sauce, red wine, white sugar, dried basil, and optional crushed red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
Step 5
Return the browned burgers to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Cover the skillet and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, checking occasionally. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little water as needed.
Step 6
After 15 minutes, remove the cover and add the sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions back into the skillet. Cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until everything is heated through.
