Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Sonora Chicken Casserole.
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Step 2
Place the chicken breasts in a baking dish, cover, and bake for 1 hour. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the dish and let it cool. After cooling, shred the meat from the bones into small pieces.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, chili, picante sauce, milk, chopped onion, ground cumin, and garlic powder. Mix well until smooth.
Step 4
In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the shredded chicken evenly on the bottom. Layer half of the torn tortilla strips over the chicken, followed by half of the sauce mixture. Sprinkle half of the Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese on top. Repeat these layers with the remaining ingredients.
Step 5
Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the sauce is bubbling.
