Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Spicy Harissa Sauce.
Step 1
Begin by preheating your oven's broiler, positioning the rack about 6 inches from the heat source.
Step 2
Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with aluminum foil.
Step 3
Place the halved red bell peppers, cut-side down, on the sheet and broil them until their skins are beautifully charred and blistered, which should take around 5 to 8 minutes.
Step 4
Once they reach that perfect blackened state, transfer the peppers to a bowl and cover it tightly with plastic wrap, allowing them to steam and cool for about 20 minutes.
Step 5
After cooling, gently peel away the skins and discard them.
Step 6
In a large pot, bring lightly salted water to a rolling boil.
Step 7
Add the Fresno and habanero chiles, cooking them uncovered over medium heat until they begin to soften, roughly 3 minutes.
Step 8
Drain the chiles and let them cool, then carefully remove the seeds and membranes while wearing gloves for safety.
Step 9
In a skillet over medium heat, toast caraway and coriander seeds until they release their fragrant aroma, about 2 minutes.
Step 10
Use a mortar and pestle to crush these toasted seeds, then mix in ground cumin, dried mint, and salt, crushing until the blend is finely ground.
Step 11
Transfer this aromatic spice mixture to a blender, adding the roasted red bell peppers, Fresno and habanero chiles, garlic, lemon juice, and vegetable oil.
Step 12
Blend everything together until you achieve a smooth consistency.
Step 13
Finally, drizzle in the extra-virgin olive oil and blend for just a few seconds to incorporate it seamlessly.
Step 14
Enjoy the vibrant flavors of your homemade sauce, perfect for elevating any dish!.
