Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Classic California Pizza Dough.
Step 1
To start your delicious pizza journey, grab a large bowl and whisk together the yeast, honey, and 1/4 cup of warm water.
Step 2
Let this mixture sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy and bubbly—this is the yeast waking up and getting ready to work its magic! Next, add in the salt, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, the remaining 3/4 cup of warm water, and 1 cup of flour.
Step 3
Stir everything together until you have a smooth batter.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to gradually incorporate another cup of flour, mixing until it’s well combined.
Step 5
Then, add an additional 1/2 cup of flour and keep mixing until the dough starts to come together nicely.
Step 6
Once your dough is ready, turn it out onto a surface that’s been lightly dusted with 1/4 cup of flour.
Step 7
Knead the dough gently until it’s smooth, firm, and just a bit sticky, adding more flour as needed to keep it from sticking to your hands.
Step 8
When you’re happy with the texture, place the kneaded dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a damp towel.
Step 9
Find a warm spot in your kitchen and let the dough rise until it doubles in size, which should take about 30 to 40 minutes.
Step 10
After the dough has risen, turn it out onto a lightly floured cutting board and gently pat it down to release some of the air.
Step 11
Divide the dough into four equal pieces.
Step 12
For each piece, shape it into a round by stretching and folding it down and under, tucking as you go.
Step 13
Once shaped, cover the rounds with a towel and let them rise again in a warm place until they double in size, which will take about 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 14
While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and dust a baking sheet with cornmeal to prevent sticking.
Step 15
When the rounds are ready, take one and place it on a lightly floured board.
Step 16
Press it out to your desired thickness, about 8 to 10 inches wide, and use your fingertips to create a crust shape around the edges.
Step 17
Transfer this round to your prepared baking sheet and brush it with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
Step 18
Now, it’s time to get creative—add your favorite sauce and toppings to make it your own! Bake your pizza on the lower rack of the preheated oven for about 5 minutes.
Step 19
Then, carefully move it to the center of the oven and continue baking until it’s golden brown, which should take another 10 minutes or so.
Step 20
Repeat this process with the remaining dough rounds, and soon you’ll have a delicious homemade pizza feast ready to enjoy!.
