Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Delicious Cardamom Sweet Bread.
Step 1
Start by whisking together the warm milk, warm water, and sugar in a mixing bowl until the sugar dissolves. Add the melted butter and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let this mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy, a sign that the yeast is active and ready to work its magic.
Step 2
Once your yeast is bubbly, stir in the flour, adding more as needed until you form a stiff dough. When the dough comes together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size, which should take about an hour.
Step 3
While the dough is rising, mix together 1/2 cup of sugar with the ground cardamom and cinnamon in a small bowl. This fragrant mixture will add a lovely sweetness and spice to your bread.
Step 4
Once the dough has risen, gently deflate it and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a 9x13-inch rectangle and brush it generously with 1/2 cup of melted butter. Sprinkle the cardamom sugar mixture evenly over the surface, and if you’re using them, add the raisins and walnuts for extra texture and flavor. Now, roll the dough tightly into a log, pinching the edges to seal it well. Place the log on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise again until it doubles in size, about another hour.
Step 5
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). When the dough has risen, take a sharp knife and score the top of the roll with V-shaped cuts along its length. This not only looks beautiful but also helps the bread bake evenly. In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg wash, and brush it over the top of the bread. Finish by sprinkling the sliced almonds and pearl sugar on top for a delightful crunch and sweetness.
Step 6
Bake your bread in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Once baked, let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into this aromatic treat.
