Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Delicious Chicken Tacos with Sorrel Cream.
Step 1
Start by creating a delightful sorrel cream. In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, chopped sorrel, lime juice, 1 teaspoon of salt, and sugar. Stir until everything is well blended, then cover and refrigerate it to let the flavors meld together while you prepare the tacos.
Step 2
Next, let's make the tortillas! In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix together the all-purpose flour, masa harina, baking powder, and 2 teaspoons of salt. Gradually pour in the melted butter and water while mixing on the lowest speed. Keep mixing until a dough begins to form.
Step 3
Once the dough is ready, turn it out onto a clean surface and knead it gently just a few timesβno need to overdo it! Divide the dough into 1 1/2-ounce balls, cover them with a cloth, and let them rest for about an hour. This will make your tortillas nice and pliable.
Step 4
After the dough has rested, it's time to shape the tortillas. Using a tortilla press lined with parchment paper or plastic wrap, press each ball into a flat tortilla. Place the tortillas on a baking sheet as you go, ready for cooking.
Step 5
Heat a cast-iron pan over medium-high heat and lightly coat it with 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable oil. Cook each tortilla for about a minute on each side, or until they turn a lovely golden color. Keep them warm while you prepare the filling.
Step 6
In a skillet, heat 1/4 cup of vegetable oil over high heat. Add the cubed chicken and cook until it's browned around the edges, which should take about 4 to 6 minutes. Then, stir in the sliced onion, chopped kale, 1 teaspoon of salt, and black pepper. Reduce the heat to medium-high and cook, stirring often, until the kale is wilted, about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
Step 7
Now, it's time to assemble your tacos! Spoon the delicious chicken and kale mixture into each warm tortilla, and top it off with a generous dollop of the refreshing sorrel cream. Serve immediately and enjoy the burst of flavors in every bite!
