Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Stuffed Pizza Shells.
Step 1
Start by pouring the crushed tomatoes into a large saucepan. Add the canola oil, dried oregano, dried basil, and white sugar. Cover the saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld beautifully.
Step 2
While the sauce is simmering, preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
Step 3
In a large pot, bring lightly salted water to a rolling boil. Add the jumbo pasta shells and cook them uncovered, stirring occasionally, until they are al dente, about 10 minutes. Once cooked, drain the shells thoroughly and set them aside.
Step 4
In a mixing bowl, combine the drained mushrooms, chopped green bell pepper, and chopped onion. This colorful mixture will add great flavor and texture to your stuffed shells!
Step 5
To assemble the stuffed shells, take each shell and spoon about 1 teaspoon of the simmered tomato sauce into it. Next, sprinkle in some of the mushroom, green pepper, and onion mixture, followed by a generous tablespoon of shredded Monterey Jack cheese. Repeat this process until all the shells are filled, and then arrange them snugly in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 6
Once all the shells are in the dish, place several slices of mini pepperoni on top of each shell. This adds a delightful touch of flavor and a bit of crunch! Pour the remaining tomato sauce gently around the stuffed shells, ensuring they are well-coated.
Step 7
Now, it's time to bake! Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly browned, and the pepperoni is crisp. The aroma will be irresistible!
