Cooking Instructions
Follow our step-by-step guide on how to make Tres Leches Cake.
Step 1
Start by preheating your oven to a cozy 350°F (175°C). This is the perfect temperature for baking a cake that’s light and fluffy. Next, grab a 9x13-inch baking pan and give it a good greasing and flouring to ensure your cake comes out easily after baking.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, beat the 6 egg whites with an electric mixer until they become fluffy and form soft peaks. This is where the magic begins! Set the egg yolks aside for later. Gradually add in the sugar, continuing to beat until the mixture is smooth and holds those lovely soft peaks. Now, it’s time to incorporate the flour gradually, followed by the milk, reserved egg yolks, melted butter, 4 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and baking powder. Make sure to beat in each ingredient thoroughly before adding the next; this will create a beautifully blended batter. Pour this delightful mixture into your prepared baking pan.
Step 3
Bake in your preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crusty. Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, gently remove it from the pan and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
Step 4
While the cake is cooling, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and half-and-half in a bowl. Pour half of this luscious three-milk mixture into a pan that’s deeper and longer than your cake. Carefully lay the cooled cake into this milk bath. To help the cake soak up all that deliciousness, use a fork to score deep lines into the top of the cake, then pour the remaining milk mixture over it, allowing it to soak in.
Step 5
For the frosting, beat the softened cream cheese with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a bowl until it’s soft and fluffy. Gradually add in the heavy whipping cream, beating until the frosting is thick and spreadable. Once your cake has soaked up all that milky goodness, spread this creamy frosting generously over the top. Your Tres Leches Cake is now ready to be enjoyed!
